Fall Color Peaking on Cumberland Plateau along Obed WSR – October 15, 2012

Chasing fall color is a fun task. Go out and see what has changed since the last time you were there. Well, since Rebecca and I were up and Lilly Bluff 9 days ago, the color has come alive. I started out at the Nemo Bridge area where the color is coming along but not quite peak. The parking lot maples and sweetgums are 5-7 days away from full color, but if you hike out underneath both bridges to the area along the Obed and just above the Nemo Rapid, the color is much more spectacular.

I left this area and drove to the Lilly Bluff Overlook and shot just a bit before heading down to the bridge and hiking down to the Clear Creek. Nice fall color and the river was up because of the rain we had last night.

Obed River and Fall Color!

So you can see that the Cumberland Plateau around the Obed WSR is starting to peak. I would say that peak will be over the next 7 days and then head downhill. How slowly will depend on the temperature and storms with rain and wind.. We will see.. Tomorrow back to the Smokies and will be there for the rest of the week.
