Building Blocks of Photography Composition: more lines

Ok, yesterday was about horizontal lines. In nature, not as easy to find, but you have to consider whether your horizontal line is level or not and why. To me vertical lines and diagonal lines are more inviting and easier to find in nature.

First, vertical lines. Very powerful. Pointing up into the sky or as a repeating element, strong. Trees make great vertical elements leading you upward. Even with a fisheye, vertical elements can be very prominent.

Next is diagonal lines, my favorite. Think of diagonal and dynamic in the same thought. Just by moving your perspective, you can create diagonal lines and take an otherwise static looking image up a notch or two.

Ok, it’s your turn. Go out and play and then show us your vertical and diagonal lines.

Post them at Bill Campbell Photography Workshops Facebook Group page.
